Universal Background Checks for Housing Program Applicants House #2
Vote Description
This was a vote on amendment #8 to H.57, a supplemental spending bill funding the emergency shelter system. This amendment reduces appropriation for emergency shelter from $425 million to $200 million. The hope of this amendment was to take a wait and see approach to emergency shelter funding, by seeing if any of the so-called reforms in the bill were effective before allocating the remainder of the requested funds Link to bill: https://malegislature.gov/Bills/194/H57
Mass Fiscal Explanation
MassFiscal supports a yes vote, in support of fiscally responsible spending of taxpayer dollars. Recently, our emergency shelter program has ballooned as a steady stream of migrants have flooded our state due to our generous benefits. This amendment looks to take a conservative approach to spending taxpayer dollars on a program riddled with corruption.
