FY24 Budget Creating New Spending Programs House #30
Vote Description
This was a vote on the conference committee budget report H.4040. This budget was filed a month after the statutory deadline and came in at $56.2 billion. This budget included questionable spending measures and created new programs that will need new maintainable funding streams such as free instate tuition for illegal immigrants who have attended at least three years in a Massachusetts high school as well as eligibility for state financial aid, funding a new program to make community college free to those over the age of 25 who don’t have a college degree, $12 million as seed money for Senate President Karen Spilka’s push to make community college free for all by next fall, and free phone calls and other communication services for incarcerated inmates.
