Raise Fees on Uber and Lyft House #472
Vote Description
This was a vote on H.5248, a conference committee bill: An Act authorizing and accelerating transportation investment. Among other things, this bill implements a fee on ride shares such as Uber and Lyft from 40 cents on a shared ride to $1.20 for a non shared ride, an additional $1.00 for a luxury ride, and an additional 20 cents for rides within a 14 city and town Boston area. A portion of the collected fees will go to subsidize the taxi cab industry annually. In addition, millions are going toward grants for electric vehicles and charging stations. This bill was released and voted on around 3:00 a.m. in an extended last day of session in a less than transparent manner.
