Letting Committee Members Read Bills Before Voting on Them Senate #5
Vote Description
This was a vote on Amendment #7 to S8, the Senate Rules, which would require committees to provide members of the committee the text or a comprehensive summary of the bills that they are expected to take up or vote on. https://malegislature.gov/Bills/190/S8/Amendments/Senate
Mass Fiscal Explanation
Mass Fiscal supports a yes vote because we believe this amendment increases transparency. Often times, there will be no way for legislators to read bills they are expected to discuss or vote on in committee. This amendment calls for the requirement of bill text or at the very least a summary of the bill before they go into a committee meeting or vote.
