Expanding EITC by Freezing Income Tax Rates Senate #21

Vote Description

This amendment sought to raise the Earned Income Tax Credit from 15% to 22.5% of the federal equivalent over three years, to increase personal exemptions for taxpayers, and to pay for it by eliminating planned future reductions in the state income tax rate.

Mass Fiscal Explanation

MassFiscal opposed the amendment because it ignored the will of the voters, who passed a referendum calling for an eventual decrease in the income tax rate to 5%.
