Removing Potential New Taxes from Bond Bill Senate #236
Vote Description
This was a vote on amendment #230 to S.2813, the Senate's $16.9 billion transportation bond bill. This amendment would remove a section of the bill that allows for a single municipality or a group of municipalities to raise taxes in order to fund transportation projects. There would be a public vote required, however this circumvents proposition 2 1/2 which requires a vote on the local level in order to raise property taxes by more than 2 1/2%. Mass Fiscal Explanation
Mass Fiscal supports this amendment because structuring transportation project funding at a local level opens the doors for many new issues.
