$15/Hr. Minimum Wage, Paid Leave Package Senate #426
Vote Description
This was a vote on H4640. This bill was framed as a package deal that would address three ballot questions, a $15 an hr. minimum wage, paid family leave, and rolling the sales tax back to 5%. Although this deal was worked on by unions, legislators and some members of the business community in order to make the hit softer on the small business community, it was still a vote to increase the state minimum wage to $15 an hr. (some of the highest in the nation) and increase the costs for small businesses. The one noteworthy positive was that it included slowly phasing out the state’s antiquated “time and a half” wages on Sunday’s, which we are only one of two states that still have such an outdated, burdensome law on the books anyway. The burden of this bill on small businesses who are the backbone of the state economy is just too much.
